Michael Shane Betts, known affectionately as Shane, was born on August 15, 1961 to the parentage of the late Lawrence, Sr. and Clifford Betts.
He met the love of his life, Beverly Coffey, in their young adulthood. Together, they had one child.
Shane attended church from a young age and was a member of Bellehaven Church of Christ in Omaha, TX. He went to Paul Pewitt High School. As a proud and loving father, he worked several jobs throughout his life. His jobs and places of employment included being a bricklayer, roofer, and working at Pilgrims, Lonestar Steel, and the Welsh Power Plant near Cason, TX.
Shane was loved by just about everyone who knew him. He was a good father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was very family- oriented and loved being around his family. His son, Quen, most of all. His son was his whole world. He was a proud dad and he absolutely did not play about his “Big Daddy” as he would affectionately refer to his son. Shane loved and shared a special bond with all of his many nieces, nephews, and great- nieces and great- nephews. Deemed the “fun” uncle, he also had nicknames for almost all of his nieces and nephews. He never ran out of creative nicknames for them, and they each have worn those nicknames proudly (no matter how outrageously silly some of them were) because their 'Uncle Shane' named them that.
His own nickname was “Road Dogg” because he didn't like sitting still. He was also well- known for many clever and funny catchphrases like “I'm full grown, not home grown”, for example. He loved dressing “fly”; and he enjoyed playing dominoes, bon fires, and shooting dice at family gatherings and cookouts. His happiness was infectious. His laugh was contagious. A comedian without the celebrity status, Shane was always the “life of the party” and a joy to be around. Shane lived freely and enjoyed life. To know Shane was to truly live, laugh, and love.
